Dyckia Brittle Star

The Dyckia Brittle Star is a terrestrial Bromeliad native to South America.  This Hybrid has beautiful white teeth along silver and green leaves that forms clumps of star-shaped rosettes.  These plants can handle full sun and can range in colors as the amount of light exposure changes.  As the plant matures and clumps, you can defoliate the bottom layers to expose nice Caudex-like stems.  These plants can be set as Bonsai but their roots do need a lot of space if you would like a large specimen. Shallow, or small pots will dwarf this particular amazing plant, although still visually impressive.  Dyckia Brittle Star is cold hardy down to 25F. 

Use a gritty soil amendment with your organic cactus mix.
