Ceiba Insignis

The Ceiba Insignis is a Pachycaul tree native to Southern Ecuador and Northern Peru.  This tree has also earned the nick name "White Silk Floss" tree due to the flossy material that sheds with the seeds.  An interesting thing about this tree besides it's wide Caudex or Trunk, is that it grows fierce, intense thorn-like spines all over it.  The older trees will lose their thorns towards the base of the tree, leaving a smooth oversized Bottle-neck Caudex shape for the trunk.  Young trees also have very little if any thorns. This deciduous tree can reach heights of 30'.  The blooms are white and have five petals 3" to 5" long and 2" wide.

Use a gritty soil amendment with your organic cactus mix.
