Caudiciform Plants are Unique and stand out among others at the Garden Center.  Pachypodiums with their Majestic features, Caudex to Caudex with Adenium Desert Roses.  Both just as worthy of a Blue Ribbon, the two Species have their own distinct Characteristics.

Pachypodium and Adenium have a thick Swollen Base, called a Caudex.  Bottle-shaped or stout and can both reach impressive sizes such as Adenium Obesum reaching 5 ft tall and 5 ft wide.  Like a Monster under the Ground, the Caudex is growing and taking Shape into it's specific Character while above you have their indivual Crown.

Pachypodium have Spines along their Trunk and Branches, while Adenium Species do Not.  Interestingly, the Pachypodium Species loses it's Spines toward the Base as it Matures and makes it Smooth to touch.  Adenium are always so inviting and you just can't keep your hands off of them.  Other than the Spines, Pachypodium and Adenium share the same Feature having a Swollen Trunk.  Both Species can also be used for Bonsai Culture and are often raised above ground level to expose their Characteristic roots.

The Leaves of Adenium are Large and smooth, spiral along the Branches to a small cluster at the end.  The Pachypodium leaves are Ovate and Relatively small, with a Protruding Midrib. Both Species have Beautiful Foliage, and along with the Caudex mentioned earlier makes two very nice Species of Caudiciform Plants.

The Flowers are Spectacular on both Species.  Pachypodium Saundersii has one of the most Beautiful Flowers, that look like White 5-point Ninja Stars with a shade of Pinks and Purples accenting the edges of a Trumpet Bloom.  There are many Hybrid variations of Adenium, leading to an Array of Colors as their Flowers are Fancy and almost look like a Flamenco Dancer's skirt in the shape of a Rose.  The Adenium Blooms many times per Season and the Pachypodium will boom once.  Pachypodium Saundersii and Pachypodium Lealii are two to aquire, as well as Adenium Obesum, and you will surely be impressed with their Floral Displays and Thick Caudex.

Pachypodium vs. Adenium, Very Similar despite Pachypodium having smaller leaves with spines along the branches and trunk.  Flowers are Both Beautiful while displaying Trumpet-Shapes and Hybrid Fancy Roses of  many Colors.  Both Species are Cultivated for Bonsai, Indoor and Outdoor Gardens.  Both are Native to Southern Africa, although Pachypodium is found Further South in Madagascar and Adenium is Found North in the Arabian Peninsula.
